Build It Strong: Child Care Business Foundations Workshops

Do you want to start a child care? Are you a current child care provider interested in learning more about business operations? 

Build or grow your child care business with FREE “Build It Strong”  business workshops. The workshops will be offered by Wisconsin Early Childhood Association (WECA) staff to help individuals understand the business foundations of child care. Choose from eight 2-hour sessions or four 4-hour sessions (16 hours of content).

Participants will learn about the following topics:

  • Basics of child care business
  • Operations overview
  • Outside service needs (e.g., insurance and legal)
  • Accounting and record keeping
  • Funding strategies
  • Determination of program type (e.g., LLC, C-Corp, group center, family child care)

Workshops are open to individuals new to the child care sector or existing child care directors and staff looking for additional education on child care business practices. Interpretation in Spanish and Hmong is available upon request. All workshops are free.

Dates and Times of Workshops

Sessions are presented online via Zoom, with simultaneous interpretation upon request. Space is limited to 30 participants per course, so sign up early. Registrants are prioritized by their regions.

Southeastern Region Time: Tuesday 6:30-8:30 p.m.
June 8, 15, 22, 29; July 6, 13, 20, 27

Southern Region Time: Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
June 12 and 26; July 10 and 24

Western Region Time: Monday 6:30-8:30 p.m.
June 7, 14, 21, 28; July 6, 13, 20, 27

Northern Region Time: Tuesday 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Dates: Aug 3, 10, 17, 24, 21; (no class Sept 7) Sept 14, 21, 28

Northeastern Region Time: Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Dates: June 5, 12, 19, and 26
