Racine County UW-Extension will be hosting the workshop, “Creating a Trauma-Informed Environment” as part of its Early Learning Series.
Organizations in Racine County are taking notice of how adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) such as child abuse, neglect, and/or household dysfunction are affecting children and families. Trauma informed practices can benefit families by creating a stable, safe, and nurturing environment. This workshop will focus on key aspects of creating a trauma-informed environment in early childhood and child care settings. As a result of the workshop, attendees will be able to:
- Understand the importance of environment
- Create trauma-informed classroom practices
- Increase awareness of social emotional learning in the classroom
- Learn ways to communicate with parents, other providers in the child’s life, and access mental health resources in the local community.
The workshop will be held on Wednesday, November 15 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Ives Grove Auditorium in Sturtevant (14200 Washington Ave.) The workshop is $10 for child care providers or other wishing to receive 2 Registry credits. It is free for parents, caregivers, and others who do not wish to receive credit. Pre-registration is required by November 8.
