New research specialist position focused on incarcerated parents and child health

Are you interested in learning more about children and families with incarcerated parents? Through a health equity study grant, Racine County University of Wisconsin-Extension is recruiting for a new part-time research specialist position which begins August 1, 2013 at the Racine County Law Enforcement Center.

The Incarcerated Parent and Child Health Study aims to determine the effects of educational materials on children and their families when a parent is in jail. The Research Specialist will be part of a research team to study how interventions focusing on children of jailed parents in a community setting may affect child health and family relationships. The Research Specialist will take primary responsibility for enrolling children of inmate parents and their caregivers into the study, for collecting data in the jail setting during visitation at the Racine County Jail on Sundays, and screening and consenting jail inmates. The Research Specialist will establish interrater reliability with project staff and investigators at UW-Madison on key observational measures. The Research Specialist must abide by the highest ethics and confidentiality in this work with vulnerable and diverse populations.
